Dear Sir/Mam
Doing a project on shop floor employee’s expectations towards employer, and their demographic mix in a manufacturing company.
Shortlisted the following procedures to study the same
*Demographic mix* and * employee expectations*
1. Secondary data from history of the company. (Data analysis) of Age, race, income level, education, previous misconducts and behavior
Null hypothesis: The Company knows all that the worker expects from the management
• Previous records on grievance management and handling
• Suspensions and domestic enquires held
• Any strikes and demand charter of union
• Previous settlements and the workmen/union expectations
2. Any Primary data conducted regarding the same (cannot float a form) through
• Direct interaction(minimum due to trust factor) need to find that one worker who can give all the data about remaining(validity becomes a question) ,
• supervisor interaction,
• Pure observation.
3. Try to find out the workmen expectations by estimating their positions in need hierarchy. The practicality to attain the same from the employer end.
How do you think my approach should be on the third step?
How to validate my data and inferences drawn from the same? What are the questions I need to include which makes it easier to validate? Any formerly designed valid questionnaire’s I should look on. What should be the sample size that I take, or minimum number of samples?
Am I going in the right direction on framing the above problem statement?
Any suggestions and recommendations would be highly appreciated.
Thank you

It's not clear what you mean by "Any Primary data conducted regarding the same (cannot float a form) through
". If you can't administer a questionnaire, how does the following question arise " What should be the sample size that I take, or minimum number of samples?"
Please let us know what is the total strength of the organisation.
For what qualification are you doing this project?

Thank you for the information. I wonder whether you have studied Research Methodology as a topic in your course!! Please, see https://www.researchgate.net/post/Wh...n_sample_frame which gives you information on how to calculate the sample based on the error tolerated and the confidence level.
Please let us know what sample size you will use and why?

I presume this is a project for a Master Course by studies and not an MPhil by research, which is a stepping stone to a PhD.
If that is the case, then you need to exhibit that you are aware of the Validity and Reliability issues involved in RESEARCH studies and explain the limitations of your research given the time and accessibility constraints.
Please study the materials available at the following sources and design a questionnaire and test it for its usefulness with a cross section of your population and then design your final questionnaire.
