Dear Nisha,
What is your background and where will you be doing the research? Please see my presentation slides on Research Methodology that gives an idea of how to approach RESEARCH. I do not think that you have searched the web on this topic to see what you can find. A simple search led me to Google where I found links to a few reports.

Hi all, I am planning to pursue my research work for P.hD. in the area of unemployability and skill gap in India. I wish to study the mismatch between the demands of the Indian corporate and supply of educational institutions. Can anyone help me to refine the topic and provide a framework on how to execute it?

The scope should be precise and manageable - "skill gap in India" is too wide an area that one will be able to do justice in a PhD thesis. It would be better if you can restrict it to a lesser geographical location, say, National Capital Territory or Punjab etc. Further you may restrict it to some specific category of Industry like hospitality sector, insurance sector, manufacturing sector, etc. You may further restrict it to a specific group of population such as Engineering graduates, Commerce Graduates, Graduates, Post graduates, Engineering diploma holders, ITI trained persons, Matriculates or non-matriculates etc. It can then be manageable. You should also consider whether you will be able to get the necessary statistical statistics in such groups or sub-groups as mentioned above viz. NCT/Punjab/hospitality etc sector/graduates etc. Please try to do it and post here for further help.

Hi,
Am a Bangalore-based softskill trainer. I have over 40 years of industry experience. Post-retirement, am into softskill training. I have conducted Corporate Recruitment Training in over 20 engineering colleges / B Schools in Andhra pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Bangalore.
I find lot of gap in so far as the skill levels of students are concerned. In almost all engineering colleges, the students are never briefed about the number of papers they have to read, number of subjects they have to read in English, the workshops, the labs, the seminars, conferences, college functions that they have to attend. Many students have admitted to me that, had they known that they have an insurmountable task on hand, in the beginning itself, they would have opted out. Everybody is on a money-spinning spree. Students are under mistaken notion, when they join, that once they get admitted and push through four years, at the end of it, they will get a beautiful degree on one hand and a hot IT job on the other hand. Further, I know personally, in many colleges, boy students have got 5 to 20 papers as arrears in the fourth year. The age gap between the faculty and final year students are just one year in many colleges. Final year students, who pass out with great difficulty, find bleak opportunity to get handsome jobs. Consequently, they settle for faculty position in the colleges where they studied. In the absence of well qualified faculty members, colleges also compromise on the quality of faculty. So it is a vicious circle and since everybody is cool and comfortable, things go on....
You can now imagine what will be the quality of students coming out of such colleges !
Best wishes

The key and operative word in the title/topic is Unemployability. This has not got same meaning as unemployment.
"Employability refers to a person's capability for gaining and maintaining employment (Hillage and Pollard, 1998). For individuals, employability depends on the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) they possess, the way they present those assets to employers, and the context (e.g. personal circumstances and labour market environment) within which they seek work (Hind and Moss, 2011). As such employability is affected by both supply-side and demand-side factors which are often outside of an individual's control".....Wikipedia.
I hope all contributors would be properly guided by the observation above so that Nisha could get quality advice from the rest of us.

Skill Gaps in Technical Traits and Soft Skills ? The research need an focussed attention. Skill Gaps in terms of Numbers of Skill Hands or in terms of quality of Skill Gaps is another aspect that needs Probing in respect of Specific Field and specific educational level of Aspirants.
