Good initiative. But, a question, a detailed manuscript. I felt the budget allocation for the phone as low, considering the models available and usage and user friendliness as far as features concerned. FYI, we do not go in for such complications - may be here in the Middle East, the law is very strict and people generally do not tend to misuse any company equipment.
Regards & Keep posting.

Sir,

I have gone through every word of the policy. I sincerely appreciate the efforts put in the drafting of the policy. The wordings in the policy smell of very high order of discipline. This is equivalent to words used by the Hon'ble judges of the Supreme Court when talking strongly against grossly erroneous acts of ommission and commission. I think the wordings could have been soft and categorical as well. The policy gives a feel that the mobile phone would be an addition burden on the employee if he chooses to have mobile phone from the orgn. Secondly, the HR deptt. is burdened too much with the implementation of the policy. I have drafted Systems and Procedures for the extending facilities of loan to the Physically Challenged Persons at the NTPC Foundation. When I presented the document to the executives responsible for its implementation they were in shock to find their role and responsibilities. So, reactions are always there from the users and implementing agencies/deptts. At some point of time a clear stand has to be taken. Then and only then a system can be put in place.

regards,

Yours Truly,

Hey Sandeep,

A well written document indeed. From the limited experience that i have had including a stint in telecom service proving company, there are a couple of insights that probably you can use.

1) In BPO industry, camera / memory card phones are not allowed on the floor. So incase your organisation values data security, this too can be implemented. To add to that, this is limited to a particular workforce / level. The Senior Executives ofcourse have the option of choosing what they like.

2) In my stint in Airtel, since the phone and the connection was provided by the company, we were required to keep the phone switched on 24/7. Now ofcourse that was a bit stringent, but you can look at the options of having the phone on at specific shift times etc...

3) While we had an eligibility amount for the phone based on the levels, we were given a choice to buy the phone we like. So to say if my eligibility is Rs. 5000, i can buy a phone worth 10K if i am willing to shell extra 5K. Now since the indiviudal has also invested the money on the phone, on his leaving, the employee can take the phone and the balance is deducted based on his tenure (pro rata deduction). Also the company can tie up with certains shops,. manufacturers for discounts on varied models.... since we are talking volumes here... employees would also like the wide choice that would be offered... after all it should nnot be like a chineese market.... where every one has the same product/style/colour.

4) After 2 years employees were eligible to buy a new phone / exchange the phone since the phone is assummed to have an efficient life of 2 years... After 2 years the employees can own the phones and need not return it to the company.

5) Also, after 1 year, employee also gets an additional allowance to replace the old batteries. Since the the efficiency of batteries (most of them) start falling after 1 year.

I hope this helps.

Hello,
This is really encouraging for all those who are new to policy formulation(me being 1).
I just have one query that for determining cellular limit was any survey done within the organization or within the industry or both.

Hi Sandeep!!
I took almost an hour to read it. I must say you have made other people's work easier. I think this is for the first time that I am reading a cell phone policy. And believe me, its such a brilliant document, it contains almost everything. I think the person who reads it would probably come out with the knowledge of policy formulation.
It will help everyone including me.
Thanks a lot. We Delchies are brilliant na. What say??
