Default About HR as career

Hi all,

I Just started my career in HR after getting done with my MBA. So, I have many nagging questions in my mind that I would like to hear answers. I see many experienced personnel in this communtiy,so, it would your kind concern if you take some time to clear my doubts.

1) How can a person proceed in this field after having some good amount of experience like 8-10 years? (If he wants to leave the job and do something based on the experience he gained like consultancy and stuff )

2) Is it possible to continue as faculty along with job after enogh eperience ?

3) What would be hike in salary at the time of appraisal in this field ( Software field do have hike of about 50-100 per cent for each appraisal of an individual) ?

4) Are there any other communties like this for knowledge sharing regarding HR ?

I would be very greatful if anyone can take sometime to clear these doubts of mine,

Regards,
Kiran.

Congratulations Kiran!

Before answering to your questions, I would like to say that please don't stick to or base on your MBA degree alone. Rather try to get a couple of standardized certifications within HR (i.e. Certified Recruitment Analyst, Six Sigma Black Belt, ERP (Employee Resource Planning)-HRM, etc. etc.) and obtain a couple of International memberships of world-class HR societies as well (i.e SHRM, CIPD, etc. etc.). Trust me, when this will be added to your credentials, it will serve just like the topping on the chocolate cake yummy!

Now as far as your queries are concerned, I would say that:

1-) By attending regular HR seminars, conferences, and workshops both nationally and internationally you may be able to get the right answer according to your intentions. This will help you to create a network of like minded people, with whom you can learn as well as earn by developing the right business after 8-10 years.

2-) Yes why not! But only if you have sound knowledge and command on that particular/specialized subject. I have seen many HR professionals who use to work in corporates as well as teach/deliver special lectures in academia. Further, when you will develop a passion for people management, you may also consider to enhance it through supplementing your experience+knowledge by doing a PhD in HRM from abroad.

3-) It just depends on your overall performace and dedication to HRM. I am not an authority to answer this question, so I better not say anything unrealistic

4-) Sure there are lots of communities, forums and resource centers that offer useful information on HRM (like: HRvillage.com, HRdn.net, WORKforce.com HRMguide.co.uk, etc) But there is no comparision with CiteHR because it is THE best online community I have ever seen. (Bravo CiteHR)

Well, I hope what ever I have said should help you to some extent, and believe that if you'll follow accordingly then soon you will become a VERY successful HR Manageress. Wish you all the best for your future, and please do remember me in your prayers.

With best regards,
Adnan

Hi Adnan,

First of all, thank you very much for taking time to give a detailed explination for all my queries. Your answers are really simple and apt. Thanks much again.

Secondly, I must tell you that I am MALE, but not female .

I am basically from south india (Andhra) and KIRAN is a male's name as well as female's name there. After coming here to Delhi for my MBA, I got atleast 250-300 or even more people asking me about my name considering it as female's one in the past 2 years. So, I got habituated to this......

Hope I clarified the confusion for you and everyone in this Forum .

Regards,

Kiran.

Hello Kiran, thanks for clarifying about your gender. Honestly speaking, from your name, no body can pick that you could be a male. Anyway, thanks for clarification and I am glad that you like my post in regard to your topic.

Regards,
Adnan
