There re rules regarding overtime, both in factories act and shop and establishment acts.
Depending on what applies to you, which state, etc the actual rules would vary
In general, working beyond 9 hours a day, 48 hours a week, the additional time spend on work is over time. Overtime is to be paid at twice of ordinary rate of wages (check the research button, it's discussed before). There is a limit of 50 hours a quarter / 2 hours a day / 6 hours a week depending of which state and whether its factory or a shop / establishment.
You also need to ensure that overtime does not amount to the employee doing regular 12 or16 hour shifts under the guise of overtime. You will get into serious trouble for that.

you need to pay double the wages beyond 8 hours working and more than 48 hours working which is specified in the said acts

Dear Friend, You may refer Factories Act, in case yours is an Industry or Shops & Establishment Act, other than a Factory with regard to working hours. Regards
