Let me try to answer your queries pointwise..

It can be one of the tools for shortlist / filter the candidates at initial stage if you want to cut down on the number of applicants... It is still not proven to be the effective way as most of the applicants now a days know how to manipulate the tests to get favourable results...

2) At what all levels ranging from technical executives and middle management to senior management ?

It is best avoided if you are recruiting experienced executives as better measurement can be had through personal interviews... For technical executives, a technical tests followed by personal interview would be suitable

3) Where can these tests be procured/ bought by an organization ?

There are quite a few sources of this tests... Try googling on the subject and you will find lot of sources... One of the well known in India for 16PF is Ma-foi (http://www.mafoi.com/)

4) what are the cost/damages involved in using these tests ?

Check with the providers as the packages differ from organisations to organisations

5) Is it better to use a consultant to do testing for the organization or organizations should buy the test and then use and interpret themselves (if trained professionals are avalibale in the organization )

It is better to hand it over to the outside consultant as they would give a more fair view... The inside executives might turn bias or their judgements might be affected by some past experience of the particular person..

In case the test is being conducted for recruitment purpose (not advisable) an inside executive would be an appropriate person

Dear prags83,
Namaskar.

You are a student. As you say your department is well equipped for imparting training on psychometry even to those who have no psychology background. Please complete this general aspect first.

2. Manuals of the specific tests will give you all details. Forum replies can never be substitute for the test manuals.

3. Search the net. You will get ample articles on the tests you have mentioned.

Wish you all the best for your project. Good luck.

regards

Dear Pragati,

I have done PG in Psychology and some research as well in FIRO-B.
Let me try to explain your queries with respect to FIRO-B alone.

1) Can these tests be used for recruitment and selection purposes?
FIRO-B analyses the factors of inclusion, control and affection in the expressed and which are basically indicators of social behaviour and how they get along in groups. Hence, this cannot be a stand alone selection tool. This can just aid the interviewers during the interview.

2) At what all levels ranging from technical executives and middle management to senior management ?
This can be used across all levels once you have benchmarked the scores in all factors for all levels; eg. the score for expressed control will be high for a top level position but it is not desirable for a junior level position.

3) Where can these tests be procured/ bought by an organization ?
Mostly they are available at internet and books are also available on these tests. I have come across some books by Pestonjee though I'm not sure if FIRO-B was included in that book.

4) what are the cost/damages involved in using these tests ?
????

5) Is it better to use a consultant to do testing for the organization or organizations should buy the test and then use and interpret themselves (if trained professionals are avalibale in the organization ) ?
If you have trained professionals in the organization then I dont think there will be a need for a consultant.

These days Thomas profiling is used extensively in organizations as this test is used throughout the career of the employee. You may also take a look at this tool. There has been lot of discussion happening on this topic in citeHR.

Hope you find this helpful.

Default Psychometrics Certification 16PF, MBTI, FIRO-B, 15FQ_, JTI etc

Hi All,
Happend to see this pretty late and thought the response is appropriate even now as on the web it has long shelf life.
MBTI and FIRO-B are not selection tools as selection tools must meet a reliabilty of 0.7 as per BPS (British Psychological Society).
16PF5 or better variant of the same 15 FQ+ (15 FQ Plus) meet this criteria.
You can undergo a 3 day certification training from Psytech International Uk with www.psytech.co.in and purchase this an online tool. There is a certification happening in Mumbai on 08-10 Dec 2008.
If you are MA/Msc in psychology, this training may be compressed into a one day training.
www.psytech.co.in has a large number of tool for selection: both ability and personality tests. GRT1, GRT2, TTB (for engineers)ART, CRTB,CRTC,ART are all abilty test that have 0.8 or more reliabilty to predict job success.
You can study about all these test by downloading the technical manual from th esite for free.
Unique to psytech is that all these supervised tests can be done online using Internet web cam enabled testing, the first provider of its klind in the world.
Personality tests for selction from them include 15 FQ+, OPP, VMI and SPI
They have a modern alternative to MBTI based on Carl Jung's type theory and generating the 16 personality types just as in MBTI.
They also have an on line 360 feedback tool which can be customized and also used as 180 degree feedback or as TNA tool.
Should you need any additional help, you may call me at 09448270474 or skype:joinbgl or mail me at

Best Regards,
Jo
