Hi All,
Our's is an IT compnay.
Our Company's MD feels that Employees are not happy with their jobs. I have joined the said company from monday. As an HR manager i have noticed that Employees do not have any grades. They are happy with their salary which is actually at par. Timinga are pretty ok i.e. 8.30 to 5.30am. sat-sun off.
Altough compnay ws registed dint hav shop act which i brought to notice to MD and soonaftrewords we applied. Now we will have PT and VPF. No Gratuity as there are 8 employees only. No ESI as everyone getting more than 30k. (no one is getting below 15k).
I strongly found that there are no fun activities at all. No team building. MD thinks he is paying employees well so employees should put their 100% and be productive enough. He thinks employees are leaving coz market is booming up.
He wants me take such steps that will change employees attitude.
Help me seniors.....

Nikhil

Hi Nikhil
Well i feel that the employees need a morale boost , for that you could have challenging tasks, you could even go in for some team activities, or can gave some time out sessions, for them.
This will improve the organizational culture of the Co. as well.

In that case you can try convincing your MD to go pilot on this scheme and if results are as per his expectation (which i believe would be) he can continue with it.
And added to this you can have a comparative analysis of the cost incurred due to attrition and the cost incurred in employee engagement program.
Hope this helps!!

Dear Nikhil,

My comments on certain extract of your post are as below:

Our Company's MD feels that Employees are not happy with their jobs.
If there are only eight employees then your MD should have found out the cause of their unhappiness.

I have joined the said company from monday. As an HR manager i have noticed that Employees do not have any grades.
You can make various grades and prepare proper job description also.

They are happy with their salary which is actually at par.
Have you done any salary survey? If yes what was the sample size of your study? Otherwise your comment that salaries are at par with market is your perception. It may be true or may not be.

Altough compnay ws registed dint hav shop act which i brought to notice to MD and soonaftrewords we applied.
This has nothing to do with employee satisfaction or dissatisfaction. However, it goes on to show that your MD is not so conscious of legal compliance. May there be similar loopholes related to taxation also.

I strongly found that there are no fun activities at all. No team building.
To build a team of eight whether you require fun activities is something doubtful. However, I do agree that fun at workplace has to be there.

MD thinks he is paying employees well so employees should put their 100% and be productive enough.
Has your MD defined the measures of the performance of your staffs? If not then whether they give 100% or not how to assess?

He thinks employees are leaving coz market is booming up.
Employees will leave company because your company need to grow also. Once company grows, it grows its people. If there are no growth opportunities, then obviously people will leave. Who would like to remain fish in the aquarium forever?

He wants me take such steps that will change employees attitude.
Attitude cannot be changed so easily. However, start doing everything as if your company has staff strength of 800. But you still may not get respite from attrition. That is the curse of being "small" of "SME" is.

Ok...

Dear Nikhil,
You say that "Yes i did do salary survey and my finding were quite surprising....here employees are getting hike directly of 8k-10k in 6 months period..."
There is nothing wrong to to give hike of 8K to 10K per six months but link the increase to their measures of performance. Make a policy for 'X' performance "---" salary increase, for 'Y' performance, "---" increase and so on.
Ok...
