Dear Ruchi,
Good question!!!:-)
I think you are a fresher.
Anywhich ways, For being a HR generalist, there is no specific subject or paremeter that if have knowledge then you would become a HR generalist. The are lot of activities in HR function apart from Statutory part. It does mean that you should know the managerial part as well as the statutory part. From selection of an employee up to his/her seperation, there are enormous activities lies in HR function.
I do not know your back ground, still I would suggest you to take one topic from HR function and spend 1 week time to be master in that.
If you would like to have any assistance, feel free to send mail to

Ruchi The first thing is to learn to spell! As a 'generalist' you will be the interface between the business and people, so you need to be able to communicate precisely in the language of both.

Hi Ruchi,
PF, ESIC, PT & TDS is a small part of statutory compliance. As an HR Generlist you have learn continiously. You should be good in Personnel Managment, HRM as well as in General Adminstration. You start learning with all legal aspects first and then go to core HR.
