I appreciate your query and a very genuine one. As you said - yes I have accessed websites and the one's that I have used are free to use ones where I guess - I have still not infringed upon any copy rights - which anyway are not matter to worry about in our case as the Institute does not require us to submit a reference for the assignments. For the project - which the student undertakes after the completion of assignment and written exams, it is a must - as the student will be claiming rights over their project and same with the institute as well - so there it becomes necessary.
These assignments are not what you people do at the Universities there in UK or for that matter most western countries - these are mere homework type of work - where idea is to see if the student has to some extent understood the materials that have been provided to us for the exam purpose.
Hope this solves your query. I know this comes across as a surprise - but most institutes in India do not require references for their assignment and for writing the exam - I can just by heart the book and reproduce it if my memory is good - so no issues of plagarism.
