Generating employee ID can vary from company to company. A company can put employee id with respect to company's name followed by the employee's date of joining or date of birth followed by a unique number (can be the 'n'th employee of the company)
For Eg: An employee in a company called 'XYZ' , his employee id can be - XYZ0106201201 or XYZ0106198502 where the former one is employee's date of joining and the latter one is related to employee's date of birth in the format (dd/mm/yy). In the above employee code the first three letters are the initials of the company name, the next 8 digits states the date of joining or the date of birth of the employee , and the last 2 digits states the 'n'th recruitment to the XYZ company. In this example it means the XYZ0106201201 states that the employee's date of joining is 1st June 2012 and he is the 1st one in the company to be hired.

Well this isn't a fixed process followed by the organizations , if you talk about well established organizations the generation of employee id is computerized i.e generating employee id(s) through software solutions which they are using in their organization. For a start up company in the initial days ,any method can be followed by the organization provided that the employee id which is manually created is unique in some or the other way.
Since I have recently started up my own company, I prefer to follow the procedure which I have mentioned in my previous post & so far it's working fine with me.

good morning

My company deals with Realty(Real Estate) business and business networking recently i was appointed as a HR in this company.I want to see the company in systematic manner first of all the employees are not punctual, regarding this i already spoke to the Chairman and the management team. They simply told have patience slowly you need to bring the change. It has been declared that no one can sign the register after 10 am.Still it has been repeated and today when i took the register and told no one can sign it after 10 still they send the office boy to me asking for the register.Gossips starts because they are refereed by the Director.I tried to sort out this issue but no use and, one of the employee she supposed to leave the organization this month and she did not completed her given assignment when i spoke to the management they said fine don't be so strict as she is leaving the organization. Then how could i get the work as it will be burden to the newly appointed.Management told when the old employees will leave the organization the freshers will listen to you. Please suggest me.

Thanks & Regards

Hi,
If generation/tracking of employee code is done through some software solution a new code can be generated or
Change the division & DOJ in the Employee's Code & the retain the same 'n'th recruitment number to company' so the overall head count remain same
If done manually assign same code with a some suffix T & maintaing a separate tracker for such cases.

Sonal Tandon Navi Mumbai. Thank you for your quick response. So to verify, we will still use the same emp code then just add T which means Transferred. Am I correct? So by using the example that would be XYZ-08-02-2013-001T or XYZ-T-08-02-2013-001
