I am from Volvo Bus Service Company in Kolkata. This is our family business. I am the brother of the director. I had seen 5 DVDs going out for repair, but on the gate pass, our staff was showing only 4 DVDs. I had sent an email to the Store Incharge, cc'd to our General Manager and Director (my brother). However, my General Manager suspended me for a day. What can I do about this? How can I address this issue? Please help.

Dear Sir,
It would be better if you talk to your brother personally and address all the issues that are currently ongoing. This matter should be taken care of from next time onwards.

Dear Kishan,
Please reply to the following questions:
1. Once you have seen 5 DVDs at the gate, why did you allow them to go out?
2. Have you asked the security while sending them out and checked the Outward Repairable register entry for correctness, whether it is 4 or 5 on the gate pass as well as in the register?
3. Did you immediately inquire and discuss the matter with the Stores in charge?
4. Why did you not discuss the issue with your brother, who is a director of the company?
5. If you discussed it, what was his reply?
Please reply to the above questions. Our members will surely provide suitable advice to you.

Dear Sir,
Replying to the following questions -
1. Car Driver had informed me in privacy that Sirji 5 DVDs were going in my car with Mr. Biswas Babu (Store in-charge) for repair, but they had given a Gate pass for only 4 DVDs.
2. As per Security, they had checked the car properly when it was going to the Market; there were only 4 DVDs (but according to my driver, 1 DVD was placed under the register).
3. I discussed the matter with the store in-charge, and he replied that they had taken this only as a sample (not for repair). I asked why the sample quantity was not entered on the gate pass register. He simply replied - No.
4. I discussed with my brother about 'Insubordination' that led to my suspension by the General Manager. My brother mentioned that I should not have kept him in C.C. on the email, insubordination means this. However, I accepted my suspension and informed the General Manager that I would be in suspension mode as per their instructions, but I would still attend the office on that day. My brother replied, "That's good, Kishan, and I will handle the General Manager on this issue after Durga Puja."
-Thanks
Kishan

And 1 more thing I have to ask...
As per management instructions, we had to work 5 days during Durga Puja (on holiday). Can we claim additional charges for this duty, and how much can we claim? My salary is $6000.

Please do not simply believe the word of the car driver or anyone. If you see any discrepancies, you can address the issue with management. Otherwise, it may affect your career in the company. Whenever you face such issues, you must immediately discuss them with your immediate boss and the concerned persons instead of sending emails. Without conducting any inquiry, the GM cannot suspend you. You can ask him the reason for the suspension, but it must be done through the proper channel.

Dear Kishan,
In case you work on any holiday declared by the organization, you are eligible for Compensatory Off and must be present for the day you worked. If Compensatory Off is not given, you will receive one day's payment (as it is a Paid Holiday), and for the period you worked, you will receive double OT.
If you worked a total of 30 hours over all five days, you will be credited with 5 days present and 30 hours of double Overtime Charges.
I hope you have understood the concept.

What is your daily rate of payment? Rs.6000/26 = Rs.231 per day is your one-day payment. If you divide it by 8 hours, then you will get 1-hour payment. If you multiply it by 2, then it is double the rate of overtime payment, i.e., you will receive Rs.57.70 per hour for the period of your work.

You can approach the Labour Commissioner's Office of your district. While going, please keep all the records with you to produce to him. You must have the company ID card, your payslip, and if you have your attendance card showing in-time and out-time records with you, so that you can prove your work. If you are underpaid, make a note of the same and file a complaint with your District Labour Commissioner. He is the right person to approach.

Dear Kishandayma,
I hope you are getting answers to all your queries. Notwithstanding what our esteemed members have commented, I wish to add another dimension to it.
Studying your case in depth, I can't help but admire the professionalism that is evident in the actions of the concerned GM and your brother, who is himself a Director of the company. Both have displayed immense maturity in dealing with the issue without worrying whether the person involved is a relative of the Director or an ordinary employee. This is something very rare in private family-run businesses.
I wish your organization all the very best.
Warm regards.

Dear Sir,
I apologize for disturbing you again.
We have 80 small cars with commercial numbers. 21 cars are currently assigned to SBI bank duties, while the remaining cars are engaged in flying duties, serving on a call basis or for corporate clients. I personally use my company private car on a daily basis, driven by my personal driver, Ashok. He has been driving the car for a year now. However, he is requesting to be shifted from private to commercial number plate duty for flying cars. He is also requesting a salary increase to match that of flying car drivers, approximately 6500.
I seek your advice on how to proceed with this situation. Your valuable suggestions are eagerly awaited.
Thank you,
Kishan Dayma
