I have come across two terms - "Salary Register" and "Salary Sheets". These two are frequently used by HR and sometimes in the Accounts division, especially while making provisions. I am wondering if anyone could mention the difference between these two terms. It would be great if seniors/super seniors here could attach a format for each one.

In my plant, for some work, I give work on a contract basis. While clearing the bill, I ask the contractor to submit the wage register, PF, and ESI paid challans. The contractor says PF and ESI are not applicable as he is employing 14 members. I want to know what is the minimum number of employees required for PF and ESI to be applicable.

If the principal employer is enrolled with PF and ESI, then automatically contracts will come under the purview of the act, irrespective of the contractor employee strength. For PF, a minimum of 20 employees and for ESI, a minimum of 10 employees are required.
