Hi,
When constructing a workmen camp for contract labor, especially for a large group like 500 workers, it's crucial to follow the guidelines and standards set by local labor laws and regulations, which often include the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996, and rules made thereunder in India. These standards are designed to ensure the safety, health, and welfare of the workers.

While specific requirements can vary by jurisdiction, here are some general guidelines:

Room Size: The size of each room should be sufficient to provide a minimum of 50 square feet (about 4.6 square meters) of living space per worker. This space is intended to ensure that workers have enough room to live comfortably, considering their personal belongings and bedding.

Distance Between Beds: There should be a minimum distance of 3 feet (about 0.91 meters) between two beds to prevent overcrowding and to maintain a comfortable living space for each worker. This distance helps in ensuring privacy and also aids in maintaining hygiene and health standards.

Ventilation and Lighting: Rooms should be well-ventilated and have adequate natural or artificial lighting to ensure a healthy living environment.

Sanitation Facilities: Adequate sanitation facilities, including toilets and bathing areas, should be provided. The ratio of these facilities to the number of workers should comply with the local regulations, ensuring minimal waiting time and maintaining hygiene standards.

Drinking Water and Food Storage: There should be provisions for safe drinking water and proper storage facilities for food to ensure the health and well-being of the workers.

Recreational Space: If possible, provide space for recreation and relaxation, contributing to the overall well-being of the workers.

Hope this information is useful and helpful
