Hello seniors, I am having 2 years exp.as a HR officer from engg.mfg. orgnisation employee strength 2500.resigned due to marriage.despite having good exp.in HR ,recruitment , skill gradation, knowledge in laws(DLL) wefare activities,lack of fluency in english leads to unemployment in city like mumbai. I came from rural background worked in satara city, so no such exposure to english speaking.
Is fluency in english is everything? Attitude, positivity, past exp.dedication and commitment towards work dont have value?
Please guide me on this problem

Hello, As i am having good experience and knowledge , succeded in the first 2 rounds even technical round but lack of fluency in english leads to rejection in VP round. Plz guide me for interviews

2 suggestions:
Try enrolling in English speaking courses. I have no idea about costs, but you don't need to go for anything expensive.
Also look at jobs in the manufacturing sector where IR would form part of your HR responsibilities. Since you have knowledge of labour laws, that would be a great advantage, along with your strong language skills. Look at companies based in Navi Mumbai & Thane - they would be more willing to accept your skillsets as they are.

I am Also Coming From Poor Background , past Three Years i am Working In Leading Auto Mobile Industry ,Struck in English Does Not a Matter , it is the Communcation only not a Rocket Science ,,,, HR means He id the Only Person Mange all , if you Struck means your Admin Skil it a Reduce ,
I like to Mention Some Key Points
- Wheel Power On your Mind
- Do affarid about interview , that is not your last interview
- if it is right or wrong belive your self
- we are a HR Not a Employee
(Regulary watch , English Film ,Hindu ,(Talk freely with Your Friends )) That is Few way to Improve HRS

Dear All,

Such kinds of problems are facing by lots of people coming from non city locations & specially, who are from IR & labour law background. seems they are more interacted with local govt. authority in local language.

But, see the another side of coin, rejecting or not selecting due to poor English communication, it does not mean that there is nothing any value of your Attitude, positivity, past exp.dedication and commitment towards works.

Language is the part of communication, which complete the whole process of communication.

When we are working in corporate world, English is the common language,which we use for most of communications. which we need to learn. many times, we need to talk with internal employees or out side client etc.. so, we should know that English language & we can improve it.

Major part is, in India we have given more important to English language, if you see china & Japan country,even many other countries they have adopted their own language for all communication including corporate work also, that why many other peoples learn the their language before going in their country, but they never felt bad about poor English communication.now a days, they are also learning the english.

we should look at it in different prospect, English is only language, which can be learn as like as any other language. Nobody can felt guilty that, if he cant speak hindi or regional language but, he can speak English, rather feeling bad, they feel proud that, if they cant speak any other language so, what..? they can speak English fluently.

So, don't feel bad, take step toward learning point as positively & face the situation & don't scare about it.

Hai rupali,
fear of speak in other language which is need in day to today life.
Today can split in two words to and day. 'to' as knows by all that to reach other end. When to reach 'day' means all ways. To reach other all times it takes some time. All off sudden no one can proficient. Day by day improvement will come in all deeds which we do.
Tip : Think in english and talk in mother tongue. For this read any small grammar book from first page to last page.

I understand the situation you are facing, and it is a difficult and challenging one. It can seem overwhelming mentally.

My recommendation is to take the "advice" you get on this site with a grain of salt. Just read some of the suggestions above -- they themselves do not know how to write correct English, and are urging you, in effect, to ignore your need of improvement in this area. Frankly, the majority of the folks who have advised you above do not have a clue, or exposure beyond India -- it is obvious from the language (English) they use.

In your area, HR, the English language is a critical component for understanding and interpreting discrimination laws, company policies, their application, and then relaying that interpretation back to your team-members in clear, lucid terms. The HR field IS about communication and effectiveness, not efficiency. It is about problem-solving, not task-doing.

I recommend some English comprehension classes, and then "How to be a trainer" courses, including Facilitation and Presentation skills.

For the record, I recently came to India after spending the last 25 years in the US, where I was a Sr. Ops Mgr with Fedex Corp. I worked with a broad range of industries and companies, including Caterpillar, Mitsubishi, Lockheed Martin, Annheuser-Busch, Disney, and the US Air Force. I've been in India for the last couple of years doing Organizational Development for some US Based MNCs.

Try to not be too hard on yourself, for everyone has to learn at her or his own pace. It's okay to make mistakes -- for they make you stronger.
