Hi, I have given my resignation and I am serving a notice period of 15 days. I have been working for 8 months but have not received a letter of confirmation, which I am eligible for after 6 months. I resigned due to health issues and am serving a 15-day notice period because I need to go back to my native place for further treatment. The management responded to my resignation email after 8 days, requesting me to serve a full 30 days and discuss further. After a discussion, the director asked me to either give 15 days' salary as compensation or serve the remaining 15 days. Am I liable to pay the compensation since I am not yet a confirmed employee? Also, the director threatened that he won't provide me with a relieving letter or a clean chit if I leave in 15 days. Does the company have the right to do that? Thank you.

Dear Aparna,

Was a 30-day notice period for resignation specified in your appointment orders? If so, you are required to either serve the full notice period of 30 days or compensate for the remaining unserved period of 15 days.
