I completed my graduation in BMS and also completed BSim (Business System and Information Management) at NIIT. Currently, I am working in a bank. I am planning to set up an office for a BPO, but I don't have enough knowledge about this field. Please provide me with enough information.

Becoming a Dealer for a Firm

I am going to be a dealer for a firm that offers distribution opportunities to interested individuals. I want to know what the minimum qualifications, requirements, and investments are to set up an office. I also need information on becoming a dealer and their contact details to assist me in starting my BPO.

I have a basic knowledge of the outsourcing business. I am good at managing the operations. I have an effective plan and process in place for that. However, there is one thing missing - I don't have any contacts with dealers who can provide outsourcing opportunities.

I am confident in my ability to establish a successful back office operation along with my partner.

Every week, we see numerous posts from individuals wanting to start a business without any knowledge, and unfortunately, many will fail. Running a business and making a profit is not easy, especially in a field with intense competition.

However, I will repost the comments I make every time on this subject, hoping they will help you make the RIGHT decision for your future. If you have no idea how to proceed and expect others to guide you entirely, then you are headed for disaster.

Take a step back and do some research on this FIRST.

Conduct a Thorough SWOT Analysis

Start first with a thorough SWOT analysis of both yourself and the business idea. After that, put together a very detailed and comprehensive Business Plan that outlines exactly how the business will be set up, what funding you have, how you will operate, how you will market, and where the clients will come from.

From reading CiteHR, it seems that half of India is setting up businesses like this. Almost every week, we receive posts about setting up a BPO business. I think the competition in this space must be overwhelming.

Differentiate Your Business

What is going to be different about you and your business? How are you going to find clients when all the other similar businesses around you are seeking the same clients? How will you support yourself (and your family, if applicable) while trying to establish the business and make it profitable enough to pay you a salary? What capital and ongoing finance do you have to start this business, hire and pay staff, rent office accommodation, pay for marketing and advertising, etc.? How many other similar businesses are there right now in your area that you will be competing with?

As a general rule of thumb, you need to work out what your total living expenses are for a year and set that money aside. This relieves the pressure to some extent while you try to establish the business. At least you can then maintain a roof over your head, continue to eat, and pay for all your living expenses, though you may need to live more frugally.

Financial Planning and Business Setup

Secondly, you will need to determine what it will cost to set up the business from scratch and how much money you will need to run the business for at least a year. Very few businesses make any money in the first 12 months, so if you are counting on generating income as soon as you open the doors, I seriously advise you to rethink this idea NOW.

We have so many posts here on CiteHR from people who have started their own businesses and are now desperately seeking clients because the business is failing. I guarantee that none of these people did any research first or ensured they had funds in place to live on.

FAILURE TO PLAN IS PLANNING TO FAIL.
