Is PF Form No. 2 for new joined employees compulsory to send to the local PF office, or can it be kept at the company in the employee's personal file?

I know that PF Form 2 needs to be sent to the PF office for newly joined employees. However, the HR executive of the company I am working in told me that it is not required and only PF Form 5-10 from the employer's side (Form 5 for new joinings) needs to be sent.

Please do let me know if PF Form 2 is not required to be sent to the PF office.

Dear Bhardwaj,

Now ECR challan details are applicable with effect from 01-03-2012. So, PF Form 5-10 is not required from the employer's side (Form 5 for newly joined employees) to be sent. However, PF Form No. 2 for newly joined employees is compulsory to send to the local PF office.

Thank you for the prompt replies. In my previous working organization, where I worked for 7 years as the HR Department in-charge/Generalist, I used to send PF Form 2 in the same month in which new employees joined. However, here in Pune, where I am currently working, an existing employee in the HR Department, who is responsible for PF form submissions, told me that it is not necessary to send PF Form 2. Therefore, I inquired further.
