Respected seniors and dear friends,

I have received my release letter on my last working day. It states that I "shall" stand released at the close of office hours on my last working day. Does the word "shall" here mean that I have not been released yet, or does it mean that I will be released after the date mentioned? The presence of the word "shall" is casting some doubts for me.

Kane

Dear Kane,

Since you received your releasing letter before your actual release (which took place later in the day) at the time of issuing and signing the letter by the appropriate authority, you had not been actually released, which took place a few hours later. Hence, the use of the phrase "shall" is appropriate and is customary under such situations.

In other words, you stand released at the end of the working hours on the day you last attended the office. I hope this shall put your heart and anxieties to rest. This is a definitive, authoritative reply; please do not go around looking for a second opinion.

Warm regards.

Hi Kane,

Thank you for your valuable advice.

I have one more question relating to charge handover. Before receiving my release letter, I handed over the list of pending tasks/charge handover statement (signed by me) to my reporting authority. However, I did not receive any acknowledgment or a copy of the same. I have a photocopy of it, but it was not signed by my reporting authority. Could you please provide your advice or opinion on this matter?

Regards,
Kane
