Suhaskhambe's worksheet is a protected simple worksheet and is unnecessarily made complicated by hiding the cell values. I do not think there is any great advantage in hiding and protecting such a simple worksheet.

Shivakumar has made things simple for Rambabu. He has shown only the salary and not the CTC, as desired by Rambabu. Well done.

Hi Balaji,

Thank you for the details. I'm in the process of restructuring the salary components to be beneficial for both the employee and the employer. Is there a limit to the attendance allowance and performance allowance? I'm not sure, but are allowances taxable? Also, I would like to understand what EDN stands for.

There is no limit to imagination. There are thousands of ways to arrive at Gross $12,000. It all depends on how you follow the rules and what the policy is. It just amazes me when people calculate DA at 50% of the basic. Is DA a static thing? According to me, DA is linked to the Consumer Price Index, and it is very volatile. How can one fix the percentage of DA? If you cannot do justice with the different components of the salary, keep it lump-sum at $12,000.

Mr. Oberoi,

There is no limit for attendance allowance and Performance Allowance; it is flexible. You can keep and maneuver these components as per your wish. All allowances paid in any nomenclature are taxable.

EDN - Is Education Allowance:

LTA - We have a policy of paying LTA during the month of January as we celebrate 'Pongal' / Sankaranthi at that time. The money paid can be utilized for the festival. Education Allowance - Is paid during the month of April / May. This is the time when normally results are announced, school fees need to be paid, and uniforms / books for children are to be purchased. When we pay during this time, the same can be utilized by the employees for the purpose it is meant for.

Hi all,

Can you please let me know how we are fixing the basic salary, HRA, and other components? Could anybody share a format on how to structure salary components? Some companies offer basic salary at 40%, 50%, or 60%. Does a lower basic salary affect PF contributions? Please provide your suggestions on this matter.

Additionally, some companies pay low salaries like Rs. 5000/- per month. Is it appropriate to pay such low salaries?

If anyone could get in touch with me regarding these questions, I would appreciate it.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear Mr. Balaji,

With reference to your worksheet on the salary structure, could you kindly explain how you arrived at the basic amount of 3000 when the gross salary is 12165? According to your calculation, the basic salary is less than 25% of the gross salary. Some suggest it should be 40% or 50% of the gross.

I understand the conveyance allowance of 800, but could you provide insight into how you calculated DA, HRA, and attendance allowance? Additionally, for the remaining amount, can we designate it as a special allowance or performance allowance? Kindly guide me on the fixed and variable components of the salary, including their calculations and formulas.
