Totally agreed with Balaji. The intention behind this question is usually to get more information about the candidate that is not expressed in his/her resume. Avoid explaining the things that are already there in the resume. Do mention your positive strengths, achievements, projects, initiatives, and likings. At the same instance, avoid talking about your family if not asked by the interviewer. Keep direct eye contact, sit straight, keep smiling, and face the interview. When in an interview, you are asked about "Tell me about yourself," don't start with your name. Instead, begin with your educational information. What is your highest degree? When did you complete it, and from which institute did you graduate? Then, move on to your professional experience. Elaborate on the experiences that align with what the interviewer is seeking. Also, mention important activities you have handled that you believe would add value to your resume.
