Hi Folks,

Would like to share an article on Innovation : Where has India succeeded and Failed written by Arindam Banerji which I use extensively to give examples and drive home the essentials of Business Creativity to B-School Students in the Workshops on Business Creativity & Tools for Innovation.

India has made rapid strides in the world of research and development in the last few years, but are its innovations world-beaters? In an era that has been dominated by American innovations, can Indian scientists and technologists make a lasting impression? What will it take to institutionalize innovation in India?

Arindam Banerji discusses what will it take Indian scientists and technologists to start producing innovations that become large sources of wealth generation for India, India Inc and Indians in four parts:-

• Can India produce Billion Dollar Innovations?

• How India can produce big-bang innovations

• Innovation: Where has India succeeded and failed

• The path to 'super innovation' in India

This brilliant article ends with the words from Subroto Bagchi of Mindtree Inc:

'We have been a nation that supplied to the world raw materials, rather than finished products -- granite, rather than the monument's design. For decades, most Indian companies have focused on supplying grey matter that is equivalent to quarried granite and raw silk. This behavior is driven by a desire to live off the land, to do what has the least risk and low value-add. As a nation, we need to break that mould.'

Happy Reading!

Cheerio,
