Yes PE can deposit ESI contribution to PE's code for contract labor.. Better to select contractor who have ESIC & PF Registration to avoid any future complications.

If the contractor is not having separate ESI/ EPF registration, then certainly, the ESI/PF contributions is respect of the workers of the contractor should be remitted by the Principal employer under Principal employer's registration. The amount so paid shall be recovered from the contractor while paying the bill of the contractor
