As I am going to speak with my future boss, I am in a dilemma about what questions to ask during our first interaction over the phone. Should I inquire if you are looking for a job change only and schedule the interview accordingly, or do I need to ask some additional questions? Kindly assist me in this matter.

Hi! It's quite simple. Just forget that you are interviewing your would-be boss. You must have a JD to proceed. Ask normal questions you would ask other candidates - general HR questions. Of course, experience can be checked by seniors. You need to take care of HR matters carefully as they don't ask these questions during the interview, such as the time required to join, personal information, reasons for leaving the current company, experience documents, compensation information, etc.

Keeping in mind the job description for Head of HR, you need to ask questions accordingly. Also, since he is going to be your future boss, you need to ensure that he/she has a good exposure to HR concepts. If he/she doesn't have enough knowledge, then your knowledge won't increase either.
