Hie Sugees P.

Well I am not actually fromt the Garment industry, but can give u a hint about from where to start up the process.

-You will have to sit with one of the oldest/ experienced employees over there, from the management.

-Jot down the no. of departments that can be worked out in ur company.

-For each department, you may add the prefix of the following hierarchy of designations. These are more or less the same everywhere(Guys, plz correct me if i m wrong):

-- Trainee (on stipend only, not an employee of the company)

-- Jr. Executive

-- Exec

-- Sr. Exec

-- Assistant Manager

-- Deputy Manager/ Associate Manager

-- Manager

-- Sr. Manager

-- Asst. VP

-- VP/ GM

-- Country Head

-- Director

The above is no doubt a very generalised form of designation hiearachy. You can also opt to omit/jump on some of the heads(if need be). Make sure to discuss these with the management and thereby take the assent of the employees as well before taking the final decision.

Kindly check, if it can be of some help.

Dear Sugees,
Oh i forgot to mention about the Grades that u want to allot. Well, these can be again framed as u and the management may please, as these grades would help the HR to identify the things/technicalitites. They can be company specific.
Eg.. Designation Grade
Trainee S1
Office assistant S2
Jr. Exec E3
Exec E2
and so on....
I hope it may help you somewhere...
Good Luck

Hi
Before jumping into designations, I believe you should certainly do an Organisational Mapping in terms of Job Analysis.
This will give you the spread of employees in terms of their:
1. Roles / Profiles (there may be just one/two person(s) in a Role
2. Total Experience & Experience in the Orgn
3. Edu Q
4. Skills/Competency requirements
5. Basic Salary Banding
This will help you in creating Job/Role Bands:
1. Leadership (L)
2. Managerial (M)
3. Supervisory (S)
4. Junior (J)
Now, you need to decide how many levels do you want in each Band -
L 1, L 2, L 3 .......L n
M 1, M 2, M 3...... M n etc etc
You may want equal no. of levels across or have more at the bottom(J & S) and lesser at the Top (M & L)....
And then, finally getting into Salary Grading..... The above will automaticaly help you in this regard
Cheers
