Every State frames an Act called Shops and Establishments Act to regulate working of these shops and establishments as well as the service conditions of the persons employed there. These Acts define what is a shop and what is an establishment. It is advisable to refer the Act to understand the meaning of these two terms.To simplify,an establishment means any commercial establishment whether it earns profit or not and includes a shop. A shop is the place where the trading of goods takes place.
