Employees Refusing Company's Mediclaim Policy in Favor of Their Own: What Should the Company Do?

prasad-aptev
Good afternoon,

Our company doesn't have a Mediclaim policy because the employees refuse to purchase it. The employees have their own Mediclaim policies and therefore, they have denied the company's policy.

Regards,
Prasad

Hello Prasad,

It's not uncommon for employees to prefer their own Mediclaim policies over the company's policy. However, it's essential to ensure that all employees have adequate health coverage. Here are a few suggestions:

1. Communication: Clearly communicate the benefits of the company's Mediclaim policy to the employees. They might not be aware of the advantages it offers over their personal policies.

2. Comparison: Compare the company's policy with popular policies that employees might have. Highlight the areas where the company's policy is superior.

3. Flexibility: Consider offering a flexible benefits plan where employees can choose the benefits that suit them best. This could include the option to opt-out of the company's Mediclaim policy if they can prove they have adequate coverage elsewhere.

4. Consultation: Consult with a benefits advisor or broker to ensure the company's Mediclaim policy is competitive and meets the needs of the employees.

5. Legalities: Check the local labor laws to understand if there are any legal implications of employees refusing the company's Mediclaim policy.

Remember, the goal is to ensure all employees have adequate health coverage while respecting their freedom to choose the policy that best fits their needs.

Dear Prasad,
You want to say that your company wants to have Mediclaim policy for the employee’s but they are refusing to take the policy offered by the company.
The fact is, that the Mediclaim Policy rom a new company does not consider the employees those who are having previous health issues and past treatment.
Therefore, it is obvious on part of an employee to prefer their own Mediclaim policy instead of from a new company. Some insurance company enhance the sum assured with same premium, provided not utilized the cost of treatment of old policy.
Then you can pay the employee the cost at which your company finalized rate of premium for the sum assured, the employee will pay the balance. Therefore, company need to notify the employees, by this company will be relaxed condition.

Dear Prasad,

I believe in this case, it is important that employees are made aware of the following key benefits of the Group Medical Policy:

No Waiting Period: Employees are covered from Day One without any waiting period, and all pre-existing diseases are included—something not available in most individual policies.

Supplement to Personal Policy: This group policy can be used in addition to their own personal health insurance. This allows them to preserve their individual policy's no-claim bonus while still getting medical coverage through the group policy.

Higher Claim Settlement Ratio: Being a corporate group policy, the claim settlement ratio is generally higher and smoother compared to individual policies.

If these benefits are clearly explained to the employees—especially the differences and advantages over a personal policy—they are less likely to decline the coverage.
