Night Shift Limits: How Many Can You Work in a Month and Consecutively in a Factory?

In a factory in Maharashtra operating 24x7, individuals are required to work in shifts. The timings of the shifts are as follows:

Night shift: 00:00 to 08:00 hrs
General Shift: 08:00 to 16:00 hrs
Evening shift: 16:00 to 24:00 hrs

According to the rules, how many night shifts can be assigned to a person in a month? Additionally, what is the maximum number of consecutive night shifts that can be allocated to a worker in the factory?

There is no such restriction regarding the continuous engagement of workmen during the night shift. It depends on the company policy, but considering the principles of employee welfare, which call for keeping a balance between work and personal life, it is always advisable that night shifts be changed after every week or at least every fortnight.

If there is no provision in the law for the number of night shifts to be allotted to an individual worker in a month for a company operating round the clock, then the manager may misuse the power to harass the worker who is a target of his. He can assign the worker 26 nights in a month.
