Facing Termination at Infosys for Altered Documents: Can They Let Me Go Despite Proofs?

I joined Infosys 3 months ago. The verification process conducted by Infosys failed during inquiries with the first company where I worked as a fresher (in 2012). This first company had harassed me during the service of my notice period and also put negative feedback in my relieving letter. In my applications for my subsequent jobs, I submitted a 'modified' version of the relieving letter by removing the portions containing the negative feedback.

Upon this discovery, Infosys has issued me a show cause notice for submitting forged documents. However, my stand is that while I agree I have modified the letter by removing the negative comments, I have not faked my experience duration and other details in any manner. I have submitted proofs to them including Form 16, bank statements, and salary slips.

I would like to know whether Infosys would still have grounds to terminate my employment?
