Confused About Maternity Leave Rules for Second Pregnancy with Twins First? Need Advice!

jp-singh1
A woman is a teacher in Punjab govt. She had delivered a baby on her 2nd pregnancy. By 1st, she had twin daughters. She applied for 180 days ML due to her 2nd pregnancy, but now the department grants her ML for 90 days only due to the 3rd child. Is it right? Please suggest and post any letter regarding that.

Thanks,

Dear Anony,

Much has been discussed on this subject before. This is an exceptional case, and under such circumstances, the leave and maternity benefits are restricted to the number of deliveries and not the number of babies delivered in each delivery. There are many court judgments to substantiate the same. You are eligible for full maternity benefits with 180 days of leave.

Besides this, you should also check the rule book as applicable to government teachers in Punjab, if any.
