Shift Scheduling Dilemma: How Can My Friend Address Unfair Double Shifts at Work?

Dear Seniors, Kindly help... One of my friends is working in shifts, and even after her shift is over, she is forced to stay back for long hours. This kind of rule is not imposed on all the other employees. The company is doing this to avoid keeping more people and to save on their costs. Working almost a double shift per day is unbearable for her, and she wants to take some action because she is not given any compensatory time off or any monetary benefit for the extra work she is doing.

Seeking Guidance for Unfair Work Practices

Please guide her on what she should do, as even the HR department in the company is not helping her out.

It is not obligatory for any employee to work overtime, so no one can be forced to do so. If someone is still forced to work overtime, they should be given the OT, i.e., double the amount or compensatory time off according to the company's policy. If she is compelled to work extra hours, she can request OT or, alternatively, file an anonymous complaint with the respective labor department. However, before taking any of these steps, communication should be attempted to resolve the issue. Best of luck.

Dear Sir, I do understand your point, but when seniors ask you to work extra, one cannot deny it. Even my friend, after discussing the matter with HR, was not granted OT or compensatory time off. Would filing a complaint under labor laws be a wise decision, or are there any other alternatives to resolve the issue?
