How Can We Celebrate Our Employees' Kids' Academic Success? Gift Ideas Needed!

Archana N
Dear friends,

We plan to felicitate the children of our employees who have displayed outstanding academic performance in their secondary/higher secondary.

As this is the first time we shall be organizing such an event, I would like to have your suggestions on how best to go about it. Also, what could be given as a gift/memento? Would a gift voucher for Crossword be a good idea?

We plan to have a small celebration by inviting the children along with their families, HoDs, Chairman giving a small speech, hi-tea, and taking snaps of the children.

Awaiting your inputs asap.

Warm regards,
- Archana

Hi,

Call all the employees along with their children. For the best children, give a memento along with a gift, and for all other children, give some gift. Instead of gift vouchers, it's better to give some books that the children can understand based on their academic levels.

Make sure that the celebration is completed as early as possible; otherwise, it will be inconvenient for families with small kids.

Hi Archana,

In our organization, we are doing a similar activity as a yearly process.

1. What is your total strength?

2. As it is the result time, pass information (through the notice board) to all your employees - that wards who have secured more than 90% in 10th and 12th can give their details along with the photos.

3. Screen the applications and select the top --- (it depends on your org strategy).

4. Top students can be felicitated along with their parents at a small get-together --- maybe in a three-star hotel -- followed by dinner (and not lunch).

5. Rs. 250 worth books (gift) are enough (last year we have given two books - one on PD and the other book is Abdul Kalam - Autobiography book).

6. If your organization is interested in giving scholarships -- it can be given to those who joined B.E or MBBS alone -- it may be, say, per year 6000 to the students.

7. Make sure Certificates of Appreciation should be given along with your gifts -- it will add value. Also, take photos of the function and display them on your notice board or in your magazines or journals.

Hope the above knowledge shared will be useful to you.

Sankar

Dear Archana,

The information provided by Mr. Sankar is highly valuable. I would like to add some points to that.

Instead of conferring the awards in a day, the same event can be made memorable for a lifetime. Sponsoring higher studies with a split of 75% funded by the employer and 25% by the employee, or a 60/40 combination, will ensure that the child completes their higher education in a peaceful environment. If I am not mistaken, the aforementioned approach can serve as an indirect method to manage attrition.

Hi Archana,

Children of employees can be felicitated by any of the following methods or more:
1. Citation/letter of appreciation/certificate of academic excellence
2. Scholarship/part-funding of higher education
3. Memento/award of their interest (with a monetary ceiling)
4. Get-together with parents/co-employees (lunch/dinner/snacks)
5. Gifts of their interest/utility (with a monetary ceiling)
6. Movie tickets/excursion with family, and more.

Imaginations could soar high. The aim is to provide public appreciation and thus recognize employee families with a caring and feel-good factor. This initiative aids in retention, employee engagement, and more.

Hi friends,

Thank you a million for the invaluable inputs. I appreciate it.

By the way, we finalized the following:

- Celebration in the form of high-tea with the CEO/HoDs/the child (because he's a state rank holder) & his family members along with the HR Team.
- Presenting a Rs. 10,000 gift voucher from Crossword along with a bouquet to be presented by the CEO.
- Printing his photo in the company newsletter (which is also a recent development).

I just thought, besides seeking your help, I should also share what we finally decided on... :)

Warm regards,
- Archana
