Employee's Name Mismatch in PF and Bank Accounts: How Can We Resolve This for Claims?

Hi, can anyone suggest what to do if an employee's name is different in their PF account compared to their bank salary account? Opening a bank account under the name listed in the PF account is not possible as the employee lacks ID or address proof with that name. Kindly advise on alternative solutions to facilitate the employee's claim process.

You can draft a letter stating that the employee's bank account and PF are one and the same. I have attached a letter format for your reference. Please find it attached.

What you have attached is good, but here the employee's name is entirely different.

Name as per PF Account: Sashiraj

This difference occurred because all employees used to call him by his pet name rather than his actual name, and the same has been updated in the records and processed.

What to do in such a case...!?

It's difficult if you have minor changes; it's okay, but one option is to create a new bank account as the PF account name is. That is the only option we can do in this case.

I think you should make an affidavit mentioning both names and stating that both persons are of the same identity. Do this in consultation with a lawyer. This affidavit will work for all accounts, and as per my knowledge, banks also have some forms for the correction of names and other personal details.

I hope this may solve your problem. Henceforth, be very particular about your full name and other personal details.

Dear Vishwanathsavula and Bablu, what Yaasmin said is correct. An affidavit is the only process to claim your PF, mentioning that you are an individual with two names as per employment records and as per PF records.

There is no need to open a new account. You can attach the letter with withdrawal form 19 & 10 C. The PF will be settled.

I can't download the document. I am also facing the same problem - a name mismatch in my PF account and bank account. My name is LOGA PRIYA, but it was wrongly entered in my PF account as LOK PRIYA. As a result, I am unable to claim. Kindly suggest a solution as I am in need of money now.

I was facing the same issue. Even my birthdate was also wrong. I gave an application stating the correct data against the wrong one on the company's letterhead, a self-attested copy of the PAN card, to the PF office. It took them nearly 2 months to update the database. Finally, the name on the PF account and the bank account is the same.

One will need to change the name in the PF, as without the documents, the bank account cannot be changed.

Steps of PF Name & DOB Change

1. Download the Name & DOB correction form.
2. Fill in your details and print it.
3. Sign the printed form and get it signed by your employer.
4. Get it stamped with the company seal.
5. Attach the self-attested copy of identity proof with the application.
6. Now, it is the responsibility of your employer to send the application to the regional PF commissioner.

You can correct your name by updating it and sending a letter to the concerned department along with all the required supporting documents. Secondly, I am attaching a form that was received from the EPF department for name correction. You can use this form to make the necessary changes. In this form, your employer will need to attest to it and then send it to the concerned department along with the supporting documents. Please note that this form is specific to our region. You can request a similar form from your regional EPF department or make the changes directly with your regional EPF department.

Kindly send the correction form to the regional PF office, attested by both the member and employer. The form is available on the EPFO website.
