Exploring Recruitment Beyond Job Portals: How Can Social Media and Networking Help?

Hi all,

Till date, I have always recruited from leading job portals and references. But now, in my new company, we do not have any job portals for the recruitment process. They mostly get it done through employment firms. I want to know some other ways of recruiting apart from using job portals. Which social networking sites can help me? Are there any free leading job portals? How can I recruit from LinkedIn and Facebook? I want to know the process.

HR folks, please help me with all suggestions that you have. I don't have much time, so I want to learn the tactics ASAP. Please help!

Hi Kunal,

Just log in to Linkedin, join a linked-HR group membership (it's free), and post your requirements in the discussion before moving to the job section. Choose a popular group membership to post the job in the discussion. If you directly post your requirement in the job section, you will have to pay. Therefore, it's advisable to first post in the discussion and then use the "move to job" button.

You can search for candidates on LinkedIn and also ask for references from them.

To add my inputs, recruiting perfect candidates actually depends on the requirements you are filling. Here are a few techniques my company uses:

• Tie up with consultants.

• Manage affiliate and sourcing partners. You share requirements, and they source for you. Bring in affiliates from different regions to have a wide variety of candidates to choose from.

• Use the age-old technique of Portals.

• Utilize social networking extensively. Reach out on LinkedIn, Ryze, Orkut, Facebook, etc.

• Make cold calls.

• Many search engines like Just Dial offer packages where they refer your company when an inquiry comes in, providing you with a consistent pipeline of potential candidates.
