Hello Seniors & Colleagues,

I have completed an MBA in Human Resource & Finance. I worked at a leading private bank (on the bank's payroll) for 5 months before deciding to pursue my career in HR. During my time at the bank, I was primarily involved in branch operations. Subsequently, I joined a placement consultant, and for the past 7 months, I have been working with a software organization.

I have been involved in recruitment for over a year now and am eager to advance my skills and knowledge in the HR field. I am seeking guidance on recognized courses or certifications that would enable me to enhance my expertise. I have considered pursuing an SAP course; however, I reside in Indore (MP) and am uncertain about the opportunities available here.

I would appreciate your suggestions on a rewarding career path to pursue.

Warm Regards,

Richa

Nowadays, SAP is implemented in almost all organizations/banks, and hence you can proceed with a SAP course. Even employees' data, payroll system, attendance – in total, all employees' profiles are through SAP only. A SAP course is also beneficial for HR professionals.

Hi Prasad,

Thank you, but the thing is SAP can be done for two things: technical and functional. I need to know which one is better for me and what the career aspects are after doing it. Please suggest.

Warm regards,
Richa

As far as your profile is concerned i.e HR, only functional knowledge of SAP is sufficient for you. If you have time, you can also opt for LLB/Public Administration, which of course can enhance your profile further.

Hi Richa and Poo,

Every new joiner in this forum asks about SAP and all that. I too faced this. Based on experience, I want to suggest that before posting any query, search the desired topic using the search query option provided at the top of Citehr. You will definitely get answers to your query there.

Best Wishes,

Thanks for the suggestion, Vaibhav.

But if you have read my initial query, then you'll come to know that I don't want to know about SAP only. I want to know about all the career opportunities one can opt for after MBA - HR. It might be in SAP, Training, Recruitments, Performance Appraisal, etc. It can be anything and everything.

I want to know that, according to the latest trend, which is the best option to opt for. Please suggest.

Regards,

Many HR professionals and beginners are asking the same question — and honestly, the fact that you're looking to upskill already puts you ahead in your HR journey.

In today’s fast-changing HR landscape, continuous learning is absolutely key. Whether you’re a fresher trying to break into the field or an experienced HR pro aiming for leadership roles, there are a few high-impact courses that can really help with career growth:

Certified HR Generalist

Great for building a solid foundation in core HR areas like recruitment, payroll, performance management, labor laws, and more. Ideal for early to mid-career professionals. You need to enroll in a hands-on Certified HR Generalist Program that covers all key areas with real-time case studies.

HR Analytics

Data-driven decision-making is the future of HR. HR Analytics teaches you how to analyze workforce data to improve hiring, retention, and engagement. You need an HR Analytics Certification that offers practical training in tools in modern HR practices.

Payroll & Compliance

A must-have if you're handling salaries, PF/ESI, tax, and statutory compliance. This skill is always in demand and adds a lot of weight to your profile. You have to look for a dedicated Payroll and Compliance Specialist course that’s beginner-friendly but also packed with practical exposure.

Talent Acquisition & Sourcing

Especially relevant if you're in recruitment or working with startups or IT companies. You can source candidates smarter and faster using modern tools like LinkedIn, Boolean search, etc. For that, we recommend enrolling in targeted Talent Acquisition and IT Recruitment workshops for practical learning.

SAP HCM

If you’re interested in the HR tech side of things, learning SAP modules can open doors to HRIS/HR tech roles in big companies. Many accredited institutions offer SAP HCM certification as part of their HR Tech programs.

Why SkillDeck?

I've seen several HR professionals benefit from SkillDeck’s certification programs — they’re:

If you want to grow in your HR career, it’s no longer enough to just "know HR". You need to stand out with specialized skills, whether it’s analytics, payroll, recruitment strategy, or HR tech. Picking the right course can make a real difference.

Hope this helps! Feel free to DM or reply if you want guidance on which course might suit your current role or goals best.
