hi, pls help me to understand the difference between hr & administration. some company have hr department & administration dept separately. whereas some have personnel & administration dept
Hello friend,

As I understand following responsibilities are part of administration function:

1. Security - selecting and appointing security personnel

2. Various Contracts - Housekeeping, Canteen, Guest House Management etc.

3. Transport Arrangements- Maintenance of vehicles, Selecting appointing drivers, selecting travel contractors

4. Communication - Telephones , Mobiles - selection of service providers, rates payment of bills

5. Mails- Postal, courier etc.

6. Travel agents - selecting appointing travel agents for Air Travel

7. Any other arrangements that are required to be made in terms of hotel bookings, aircraft booking, aircraft landing facility for top management coordinating with Air Traffic Controller etc on case to case basis.

8. Event related coordination

9. Repairs to building

10. Office Infrastructure planning - providing space furniture for employees.

11. Maintain relations with police other government officials and politically influential persons.

The list seems endless and mind boggling !!!

All these sometimes are put in HR deparments role and responsibilities.

However if enough manpower / resources are not provided some of the above activities will not allow a person from administration to look after Human Resource Development activities like training and development, Performance Management, Employee Surveys and actions, Motivation, Team Building and other Organization Building activities may get ignored.

Regards

Nishikant
