HI, Apart from excellent communication, two traits which are very important for today’s HR professional are: Innovative Mind Patience. Daleep

Hi Friends,
First of all, Thank you very much to each and everyone that have contributed to this and if a trait in your mind is already posted by another member...don't mind....still post it from your side. Just post the three or more traits you have in your mind that a HR career aspirant should have or develop in order to be successful....that's it.
After we get maximum traits, I have a plan to have a small presentation on this forum with the information provided by you all. So, please keep posting.
Finally, Roopa, Sunayna, Jai, bala1, all are active members of this Forum, SO, please do post your views on this. It would be really helpful for all of us.
Thanks and regards,

well very simply what i could say is that most who have replied to this post have complicated the matter by mixing up traits with skills.
remember the earliest studies on leadership was based on traits where they assumed that leaders are born.
the trait theory on leadership identifies key traits that should be possessed by leaders which i dont remember now.
simply to be good managers we all have to be effective people or human beings in the first instance. if we are effective human beings then offcourse we will end up being successful HR managers.

Hi Friends,
I am new to this forum i have gone through this converstaion very carefully & i must say that to be an effective HR professional we must have all this traits, specially the trait given by Mr. Prashant is really very important.
M K Patwari.

i think the biggest trait is the ability to connect to people.....coz if a hr can do that then people management, right from inhouse employee management to top level executive management to recrutiment of new employees comes to the HR naturally.
Obviously communication skills, analytical & logical reasoning would help with strategy & policy making.
i can come up with loads more but i have already crossed 3 that was required :o

Though a new member of this great family of HR PRACTITIONERS. From my practical experience and academic training in HR, the key traits are: Passion (for HR), communication skill, intelligent, tactfully, persuasiveness, knowledgeable, proactive, decisiveness, interpersonal and presentation ability, courageous, patience and objective.

In my opinion, the following three basic traits are essential. 1. Judgemental power 2. Analytical Skill 3. Networking Skill Hope, I am on a right track. Regards ShailGiri

HR Professional....
*) Must add value to business..So apart from HR Jazz must have sound BUSINESS KNOWLEDGE
*) DOUBLE TOUNGUED...HR Professional has to handle both Business Objectives and Employee aspirations. So at times HR needs to be street smart.
Communication skills, analytical skills, negotiation skills etc hold true for any profession...
So none of the traits are any profession specific rather they over lap to a great extent.
