Could anybody explain the status of leaves taken by an employee before and after Sundays and Holydays.
My question is if the Sunday and Holyday is deemed as leave when an employee takes a leave before and after these holydays.
a detailed explanation from seniors would be of gr8 help.

It depends purely on the organisation leave policy.
Example: Generally in many org. (considering 5 days working) if you are on leave from 1st January, 08 (Tuesday) till 11th jan,08 (Friday) and join back duties on 14th jan (Monday), then the total no. of leaves would be calculated as (11 nos.) and not 13 nos. but if you join back duties on 15th instesd of 14th then total no. of leaves would be counted as 14 nos. In that case sat/sunday(if officially off days) as prefix or suffix would not be considered as part of leave.
But it may be different for other organisation like if someone is on leave from 7th Jan(Mon) to 11th Jan (Fri) company may consider it 7 days leaves, they may add one side sat/sun to the leaves. Similarly it applies for holidays.

We have discussed regarding leave in depth.
However, please note that sanctioning of leave is company's policy and will vary from organisation to organisation.
Normally, leave availed either prefix or suffix of sundays and holidays can not be considered as part of leave availed in some companies.
In some companies, the sundays and holidays are counted as part of leave availed.
This is depend upon the company.

Leave accruals are based on "calender days" or "working days" according to company's policy.
I will explain in details what I mean by both.
"Calender Days"
Assuming that a company follows "Calender Days" format of Leave. In that case, for e.g. if an employee goes on leave from Monday 14th Jan (provided he has worked on Fri full day) and resumes on Monday 21st Jan, then his total number of days will be from 14 to 20 Jan (7 days)
"Workign Days"
In the same example, if a company follows "Working Days" format, then his leave will be only 5 days.
In gulf countries replace Monday with Sunday for Fri/Sat holidays.
In gulf, if a company is following "Calender Days" it will have 30 days p.a. entitlement and it is followign Working Days, it will have 26 days pa entitlement.
