Am a serving army officer with 18 years of service. Planning to switch careers and doing PGDHRM from Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning by correspondance. Intersested in HR. Will this/ such courses help in getting a job?
Thanx and regards.
Yogesh Joshi.

Dear Mr. Yogesh,

Great to hear about you, I really salute the Army Personnels for the support and contribution they do in safeguarding our country but, unlike Army! Human Resources Management is not that easy task to take over because:

Army is a true man to man fight or a traning for fighting with enemies but Human Resource Management is diplomatic, beaurocratic, and cunning in nature. So just the education in Human Resource Management is not enough to servive in this competitive corporate pressurizing work environment and culture it is very difficult for a man who was in Army for about 18 years and changing his profession to Human Resources Management.

I am not discouraging you because I know that an army man will never give-up but, I am just focusing on upcoming hurdles and problems while working in this profession.

However, I wish you all the best and a warm welcome to Human Resources Profession.

With best wishes & Regards for prosperous New Year 2008

Dear Sir ,

its really great to c that u are planning something on the eduaction front

This is with reference about the MBA program.

i will refer an MBA from because of the following advantages.

1). The Certificate that you will be getting will be stating that you have done your MBA from ICFAI University and its mentioning nothing that you have done it via correspondence or distance learning i.e. it will be very much the same which a regular programmer will get

2). The Classes for each Subject are Scheduled for 36 sessions of 1 hour 15 min. each covering a total of 45 hours which is optional.

3). Additional learning inputs like magazines and journals play a very important role in updating knowledge, which ICFAI keeps on providing you every month.

4). All the students are provided online web support so as to entertain their any query.

5).You will receive the study material (Text book, work book, self guide etc) at your mailing address & the additional benefit that it is the same course which a regular programmer studies.

6) After finishing the first three groups you get Diploma in Business Management (DBM), after second four groups Advanced Diploma in Business Management ( ADM) and after that Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree and the certificates will be the same what a regular programmer at ICFAI will be getting.

7).100% placement guarantee under SPS will carry a minimum remuneration of 2.52 lakh p a for a fresher, and people who are already working with some organisation get a hike of 30 to 40% in their current package.

8).You can continue this course from any part of the world.

Dear Mr. Sumit,
This has referance to you advice to th Army person. Dears forunately I was in possession of a prospects of ICFAI MBA Programe.
Wherein it is clearly mentioned that there are eight groups from GP A to GP H. Each group examination is after every three months. It will take twenty four month to accomplish, than a person appearing will get Advance Diploma in Management.
Further to get a degree of MBA, he has to follow the elective subject which will at list take nine month more to complete.
On compeletion of the above one will get the degree of MBA from ICFAI.
Furthermore, for the army person inspite of going for hard study of MBA through ICFAI than elective subject HR, he can very well go for PG Diploma programe with the duration 9-12 month directly through ICFAI only or any other reputed institute.
Hope the above information will help Mr. Joshi to take a right decision to the diversified career.
Kind Regards
Chander Shekhar

let me correct u chandra shekhar sir for that, An MBA Course from ICFAI can be completed in 18 months time but for that u just need to club the groups and since i'm also doing my MBA from icfai itself i don't think thats tough enough
however the diploma course information is correct by u , but i recommended wat can add more value to Mr Joshi's credentials.
but it feels good that atleast people like u worry abt other people by having just a forum in b/w
hats off to u

I Suggest if you are in Pune to do the
Masters in Personnel Management ( MPM ) , most of the institutes provide this Masters course which is from the Pune University. It is a full time course but most of the institutes provide evening batches.
I have done this 12 yrs back whicle working and take my word this is a better one than most of the correspondence courses. The faculties are mostly from the industry and has good offering since this is a full time Masters Programme and from the Pune University.

Dear Mr. Sumit,
I have advised to Mr. Joshi on the basis of present job market it will remain for at least up to the July 2009. As the demand of HR Professinnal is increasing, freshers and experience holders both. As early he gets qualified with PGD in HR, he will get a job.
Moreover the person is interested specificly for HR studies only, why he should go for other General Management studies.
First he should secure the job as early as possible than try to add values to his career by doing further and higher studies.
I hope Mr. Sumit you will understand my prospective for Mr. Joshi.
Kind Regards
Chander Shekhar

Hello All,
Thanks a lot for the keen interest displayed by you all, it has certainly made me a bit wiser, to the fact that even a part time course is better than correspondence, as also a full time course is much better.
While discussing my future course of action with one of the seniors, an interesting course has come up. He suggested that why dont I appear for GMAT and try for an Executive MBA from ISB or an IIM. I know that the exam is tough, but I dont mind slogging it out if it is going to be ultimately beneficial.
Khaiser, Sumit, Chander Shekhar, Sandeep..... Looking forward to your inputs.

Mr. Joshi,
Our interest to guide you to choose right path to achieve the objective.
You can pursue through IIM & IBS also, very frank on ths are bit expensive, if you can afford. than there is no comparison.
For HR studies EXLRI Jamshedpur & IIM Ahemdabad are the best.
I am not sure about IBS Hydrabad Is providing any corrospondance or part time diploma in HR.
We would like to know on what level or rank you have been retired from the army & what is your educational background,by knowing this we will be able to guide you perfectly.
In futherence to the above if you tell us why you want to choose HR and your interest areas are.
Warm Regards
Chander Shekhar
