Hi,
The employee can very well take a leave in between. But, usually companies will have a policy if the employee takes leave on two days where the intermediate day is a holiday. In your example, if employee takes leave on 24th(Monday) and also on 26th(Wednesday), depending on the leave policy of the company 25th also counted as a leave.
Recent times, many companie changed their leave policies by considering only working days as leave and not the intermediate holidays.

In agreement with Murali, I will also add that if your leave period has any holiday/sunday being sandwiched in ur leave period then that hoilday is assumed as a leave. But if it falls on either end of the period, its not considered as ur leave taken.
In this particular case, 23rd is a Sunday and 25th being a holiday. 24th can be taken as a CL/PL, which will be counted as 1 day leave only.
The above statement is applicable in 90% of the cases, rest may variate acc. to company policies.

Let me explain wat procedures we follow in our company in this regard..,
If an employee wants to apply leave between holidays then he can use his CLs ( if he is having sufficient CL credit) but when he was not having CLs then he will be given leave by LOP basis

Let me introduce myself, I am Sameer Deshmukh working as Sr.Officer- P&A IR in one of the manufacturing company.
In your case, there is no separate rule by law for leave prefix & Suffix leave. It needs to be defined in the company policy. Normally in various companies if the leave is taken before and after the holiday then it will be treated as leave for PL leave only. In case of CL & SL there is no prefix and suffix rule is applicable.

I feel as per rule of Shop and Establishment act, a person can take a leave in between two holidays but cannot interfix their leaves between holidays- by which i mean that suppose a person does not turns up on Saturday and also on Monday in that case all four days will be deducted from his leave.
If an employee wants to avail CL on 24th then he should not be penalised for 3 days rather if he takes a Earned Leave or PL only then his holidays will be inclusive.

hi preethi,
there is no rule on this regard... but i never accept such types of leaves bcoz last working day and first working day is very important. If the employee has a genuine reasons we should expect it.
for an ex:
Now a days even the schools/colleges are also not excepting this types of leaves.

No legislation on this subject. It is left to individual organisations to frame rules.
Casual Leave:
To discourage employees to go on leave in a mass scale we frame rule that if an employee cannot avail leave in between two holidays.
Sick Leave
If a person is sick, he could no have come to office and hence we frame rules that holidays falling in between will be counted.
Earned Leave
If the calculation is made on actual number of days worked say one day for 140 days worked, then such holidays should not be included in all fairness. alternatively, if you provide earned leave say 30 days per year,then we frame rules including the holidays in between
But, all such rules are for the holidays falling in between. So you must frame your own if a holiday is prefixed or suffixed

Yes it depends on Company Leave policy.. You should concern some one at your office. But there are no such rules Ranjith

With some organisations we have the policies wherein; we could prefix and suffix holidays with CL, SL only.
When it is a PL we have to be present on the working day either at the initiation or ending of the holiday.
If it is a closed loop then the holidays in between would be counted as a leave.
