Dear All,

I am working in a manufacturing sector as a HR executive...

At present the factory is located in a semi-residential area & we have our new plant set up in an Industrial Park - Bangalore.. This is in the outskirts of the city... We are providing transportation & the log in is at 7.30 in the morning..

The problem here is that most of the workers have done their elementary schooling, they are skilled workers & they are paid minimun wages...

The management has decided to provide them temprorary transportation for which the workers have retaliated & also have decided that they would opt for public transportation & they want the company to pay them the transport allowance.. I am damm sure they cannot make it on time if they opt for regular city buses...

Being a HR i need to convince them that we will give them a permanent transportation once things are set... But for time being they have to adjust.. For them its only money & nothing else.....

What do i do??????????? How do i make them understand???

Thanks & Regards

Dear Rekha
Your problem is on the IR Side. You have to convince the workers that for having more benefits only you are moving to new place and everything will be done at the right time. Being a IR Person, you have to talk, talk and talk to convince them to come for your arrangement.
Do also send signals in the event of any untoward happenings the effect of absenteeism on the work, you highlight to the management.
Negotiate for a suitable solution with the help of your knowledge, guidance of your superiors and with our cite hr members.
All the best

Hi Rekha,
Since this is an IR issue you can resolve this only by talking to the employees. Once we provide facilities to the employees and suddenly we tell them that this facility is going to be withdrawn they will never accept.
Apart from talking to the employees, talk with your management too, the othersides if employees are opting for the public transport what are the losses for your organisation due to their late comings, absenteeism etc. And above all employee dissatisfaction.
I would rather suggest instead of temporary transportation provide them with permanent one and start deducting a specific amount from them every month, which they would have to bear if they were using public transportation also. In this case neither the management nor the employees will suffer and you will be able to make a compromise with them.
I hope my suggestion will be helpful to you.

HI Vidya,
Thanks for your suggesstion... We have approached the workers to subsidize half of the transportation expenses, but are not ready to share the burden with the company.....
I guess we need to give them some time to thing over...
Thanks again, There is a management meeting today...
Hope we find a solution..

Hi Trisha,
Thank you for the support...
I did speak to the employees.. The problem is, there are a few of them who are creating trouble & the rest are suppressed because of their behavior...
We have also decided to take action against those making trouble....
Well lets hope for the best...
Thanks again dear...
