If not covered under ESIC due wages above coverage limit, the organization should obtain insurance in lieu of EC Act. As extra legal facility the organization may obtain Group Mediclaim, Group Personal Insurance etc.

Just I wish to slightly differ from the reply of Mr.S.K.B. The method of calculation and scale of compensation in respect of any injury or death arising out of an employment accident under the E.C Act,1923 is different from that of any insurance policy other than an insurance policy under the E.C Act. Therefore, such a policy is a must in respect of employees escaping the coverage of the provisions of the ESI Act,1948.

Respected Umakanthan Ji

First of all thanks for your prompt response.

I have only 3-4 Employees working as Housekeeping Supervisor whose basic wages is above than 21000 with recent revision of Minimum wages. Do I need to take Medical insurance for individual for employee or employee & their family. Further how much should be Coverage amount of medical insurance.

Thanks & Regards

First of all I would like to mention that Insurance in lieu of EC Act means the specific insurance which will satisfy the all conditions of EC Act. It is available with General Insurance Cos - Govt. sector and also in Private sector. It is unnamed policy.

Now the queries are made by Indu182 to Mr. Umakanthan, I would like to mention that it is essential to cover 3-4 employees under Insurance in lieu of EC Act. Over and above if the organization voluntarily as extra legal facility likes to provide Mediclaim policy - it is up to the decision of the organization. There is no legal compulsion.
