Hi,

Executive Assistant to whom ? Director or Chairman of the Company ?

It depends on the Reporting Officer to whom EA reports, size of the Company etc. Normally the role EA will be purely of administrative work with tasks such as scheduling meetings; reviewing, prioritizing based on priority of work and responding to emails; answering and returning phone calls; organizing documents; maintaining records; taking notes at meetings and any other administrative tasks assigned by the Reporting Officer.

If you are requiring a person with a law degree, then that is a different position entirely, and will need a more appropriate designation.

An executive assistant in the accepted sense of the term is as described above by V.M.Lakshminarayanan.

I was an Executive Assistant in my previous life and in common with all the other EA's in the organisation, our duties were exactly as described above - basically providing all the admin support my general manager required to help him do his job. No-one needs a law degree to do admin work.

You need to rethink this position, write a proper position description and person description, decide on a proper title for this person based on the duties he/she will be expected to undertake and then advertise appropriately to find a suitable candidate.

This job is more likely to be something like Chief Legal Officer, or if they are assisting with compliance issues, then Head of Compliance etc, etc. It is most definitely NOT an executive assistant - unless of course you are trying to find a highly qualified person but only pay them peanuts, and not what they are worth.
