Hi, You should use the same UAN till your retirement. UAN one allotted will be the permanent one. New employer even if tries to allot new UAN will get error if UAN already exists

Dear VM

Thought it is not the question the OP asked, I was wondering,

If you withdraw your PF and therefore close the account, will it still use the same UAN Later or will they generate a new one.
Will it allow a new UAN for the same Aadhar number?

Dear Saswatabanerjee

Yes same UAN only should be used with the new employer. While the PF number vary from employer to employer ( irrespective of the PF status whether it is claimed or transferred to new employer) UAN number will remain same which ever organization he /she work for till retirement where PF is applicable.

UAN got implemented by Sep,2014 and in the beginning years there some confusions with multiple UAN allotted for same Aadhar but now PF Authorities streamlined everything thereby if an employer tries to create new UAN for an employee who have already UAN number.. PF portal will show error and new UAN number cannot be generated.

Dear VM

My question is a little different.
If I have an UAN, and I withdraw all the amount (saying I am retiring / not joining elsewhere, 2 months gap, etc), then the PF accounts closed, right? Does the UAN get deactivated at that time? Or does it continue to live though I no longer have a pF account

Dear Saswatabanerjee UAN once activated will continue to be active even if the employee resigns /retires PF account is closed. UAN is constant throughout life
