Overtime hours mean the hours the worker has worked over and above the scheduled hours of work in the establishment. The scheduled working hours is 8 hours per day and this can go up to 9 hours but should not be more than 48 hours if you sum up in a week. Accordingly, you will have to pay overtime wages at double the average rate of wages for every hour worked beyond 48 hours in a week. While calculating hours worked in a week, the days the employee has remained on leave with pay should be considered as worked and that day shall account for 8 hours.
