My first employer created my PF account using my PAN as Aadhar wasn't mandatory then. I left the job within a year and went into personal business. I didn't activate my UAN throughout this time as i had no need. The deadline to add Aadhar passed and as i had no idea about my UAN activation, i failed to link my Aadhar to the Uan. However, now that I am looking for a company job, i can't activate my UAN. I don't think my Aadhar is linked to my UAN. The company I worked for doesn't exist. I only have offer letter and pay slips from my first job. No form-16, no termination letter. How can I activate my UAN now? Kindly ask if you feel any detail is missing to give proper advice.

Hi,

PF UAN system got implemented by Sep,2014 and from very beginning linking of Aadhar and PAN is mandatory. Not sure how you missed. Now what you can do after obtaining a employment provide your existing UAN number to your new employer. After 1 or 2 months salary credit, submit joint declaration form through your new employer to the respective PF office attaching Aadhar and PAN copies. They will help you to activate. Hopefully this will work out.

Hi, thanks for replying and suggesting a pathway for my situation.
I missed the deadline to link Aadhar because I had no need for checking my Pf as i was earning money doing independent business for the last 4-5 years.
I contacted few PF agents who advertise to fix activation issues. When I gave them my UAN, they informed me that my first employer had not filled out any of my details. Date of birth, gender, aadhar card no and father name are all missing against my UAN. I had not given them my previous employer's name and still these agents were able to send me screenshots of the correct company's name. So i believe they are telling the truth about missing details.

Your suggestion is interesting but it involves convincing any new company to indulge in out of norm payroll practise which I don't think many will be keen to. In some other forums, someone suggested that I let my new employer create a new UAN for me and then later try to merge both Uans. Someone suggested filling a personal grievance on the EPFO website would be enough to resolve this.

I am very confused on how to handle this.

Hi,
Once UAN is allotted that will be permanent till your retirement. Creating new UAN is not possible as once UAN is allotted if future employer tries to create new UAN they will get error msg.

with regard to your personal details you need enter details like Gender DOB etc and employer will not do.

Thanks for the insights.
Besides the one you've already suggested, Can you suggest any other alternative methods on how to get my UAN activated with no help from my previous employer?

Can you also explain the 1-2 months salary credit method you suggested earlier? I will have to discuss this with HR so i wish to know what I am talking about.
