Dinesh DivekarDear Rathish,
Your question is - "I am curious to know what organizations do to support managers within their organizations in helping them with managing self and their teams?"
The organisation can give support by identifying managerial in general and the function competencies in particular.
Secondly, the managers do not work in a vacuum. The environment in which they work also impact them. Therefore, the organisation should strive to foster a:
a) culture of teamwork
b) culture of self-learning
c) culture of accountability
d) culture of celebrations
e) culture of competitiveness
f) culture of performance
g) culture of ownership
h) culture of innovation
g) culture of values
h) culture of change
i) culture of welfare
j) (above all) culture of discipline
The managers cannot build these sub-cultures on their own. They need support from the top management.
I conduct a training programme titled "Understanding and overcoming Team Dysfunctions". It is based on Patrick Lencioni's book with the same name. I cover some of the topics in my training. Click on the hyperlink to know more about the training programme.

sharmavk05Dear Mr Rathish,
your quarry is directly related to the theory of "Employee Engagement." There are various activities done by organizations to develop managers to better manage their teams and self apart from training.
1 - Coaching / Mentoring
2 - Knowledge Integrated Programs
3 - Managers Movement to another area of work for a short period
4 - Involvement in Projects
These are some suggestions. If you want to know more, pl send the details so that we may suggest specifically based on your requirement.
Thanks ad regards,
