Hi, Our Employee XYZ his basic salary is more than 15000/-. Pl. let me know in that case PF deduction is mandatory or optional. As an employer, we can take declarations from employees, if it is optional.

Dear Mr.Vikrant saste,

EPF ceiling amount is 15000. You should continue to deduct the contribution for 15K for existing employees whose salary is exceeding 15000 after increments. For new employees, There is no need to deduct the EPFO contribution, if his salary is above 15000. It is optional not mandatory.

In order to decide whether the new joinee is to be excluded from PF or not, the basic thing that an employer should ensure is whether the employee is an existing member of PF. By existing member of PF means an employee who has not withdrawn his PF accumulations after leaving a company. Therefore, if the new employee has been a PF member, he should be covered in your establishment also even if his salary exceeds Rs 15000. In order to know and document that the new joinee can be excluded you have to collect form 11 in which the employee is expected to furnish the PF details of his past service. Obviously, if he has not declared his previous PF details, like UAN and date of exit, then you can exclude him from PF.
