I have been working in a small IT company in Chennai. Now due to COVID all r at home since March. This is the biggest reason that the manager hates. And started torture from the day 1 lockdown started. My manager is anti-national. He hates Indians especially north people r not human for him. Now the working hr changed to 12hr. I'm getting paid for 8hr and working 12hr daily. It is very very difficult for me to be in a small village with less internet. Every day is harassment for me. Every day a threat call to come to the office. In this situation don't know how to manage. Pls suggest how to save lives from such cruelty... 12hr working a day. No leave on weekends or any day. Is it legal also?

Dear Rajat,

You could have given your post a little more elaborately. If your manager hates "Indians", then the manager is of what nationality?

You have called your manager "anti-national". What made you to think so? Your statement symbolises the current political trend wherein whoever opposes political thoughts are called anti-national.

How big is your IT company? What is the nature of your work? How many employees work in your company?

How the work is measured? Why employees are required to work for 12 hours? You are required to work from from that is fine but then why did you go to your hometown where internet facilities are poor? Is disruption in internet services is one of the reasons for the long working hours?

Is your Manager just implementing instructions of his boss? How frequently HR department is in touch with the staff?

There are so many questions associated with your post. Long working hours frustrates a person no doubt but dismissing someone anti-national is an absolutely dangerous practice. Stop it rightaway.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar

Dear Rajat
Can you share your role & responsibilities in detail? There is a psychological impact on every working person in this pendamic situation. It can be dissatifaction, frustration or a sense of uncertaininty but believing that is just time and shall pass will keep you optimistic.
Have to had a discussion with your HR about your Manager's behavior. If yes, what is the outcome? If not, why?.
There seems to be lot of conflict in the situation you have shared.

Hi

Instead of getting stressed try your luck elsewhere while you keep working in the company as a stop gap. Is this your first job in your career? If you can inform more details it would be much easier to advice as otherwise we may not be correct in analyzing the whole scenario in the right prospective.

You seem to have come to a conclusion that this job is not suitable for you so long as the present manager is not replaced or you are moved out elsewhere.

There are some companies who have asked their employees to report to work from office though not all. Do not take that as something personal against you. Understand the situation and see as to what your local Govt has advised on working from office and with what type of precautions in place.

Anti- national or otherwise is not for us in the forum to decide upon and it is not politically correct to comment on them.

If you are having offers try your luck elsewhere or try to adjust without too much expectations from the current employer till you take up another job.

Thanks and Regards

Dear colleague,
Despite the gray areas in your post, you need to appreciate and accept that current pandemic situation world over is unique and has caused unprecedented stress on personal and family life of one and all.
Suggest you live with so called anti- national behaviour of your manager and long working hours by ignoring it. Also find out if you can work from a place having better internet connectivity.
These are challenging but passing times and maintain positive attitudes which only help you to sail through.

Rajat. Does a Manager ask his subordinates to work more hours, become Anti National.? What was your working hours earlier. What was your travelling time earlier. Who is monitoring you working hours now. Are you working 12 hours without any break.? Are you aware of the current unemployment situation in the country.
