Hi All, I am working as HR in the IT organization(still working here) since July 2017. Our appraisals are done in October every year.

I was on ML from October 2019 up to February mid 2020 and as our October 2019 appraisals were due for the period of October 2018-September 2019 but mine did not happened and not received any hike also, after asking multiple times, then management told me that "You are eligible for PA 2019 but it will be implemented since you will join back the office" and so I trusted the organization and worked for some HR areas while on maternity leave also.

But now as I have joined back in March mid 2020 and asked for the same in meeting, my manager conveyed me that it will be done but not specified the effective date and month. And now due to COVID-19 situation, our company's owner conveyed all the staff that this year (october 2020), no hike on salaries shall be given, So, again I clarified regarding my pending hike (october 2019), she then informed me that no hikes will be given to any member including you also.

Is it fair to hold the previous hike of an employee who had performed best and worked (from home) during maternity leave also. Because I am not asking for hike for this year, instead I am asking for previous year hike.

So it means that after working more than 3 years, they have considered me for just 1 hike?

It is clear that organizations are still biased towards female employment?

Please suggest me how should I proceed further with this? Shall I resign or escalate the issue?

Because now this concern is demotivating me, lack of interest to work in this organization.

Hi Harpreet,
Don't loose heart/hope. Every where abnormal situations prevailing almost in all sectors/sections. I somewhat think, it's not an appropriate time for you to escalate the issue further up as well. Have patience for some more time till COVID restrictions are eased and normalcy is back. I would suggest, meantime, you should write to your HR thru' your HOD to reconsider your grievance atleast after situation improves & reserve your right to appeal till such time you wouldn't mind to wait. May be you should pursue after a couple of months and take a decision. And said and done, it goes without saying, should aim at improving your performance so that your bosses think twice before saying NO to you again. Resigning without another offer on hand and looking for another job, jobless might strain much on you, after quitting at this juncture is not advisable, this my opinion.

Hi....
First of all keep Control, Don't escalate issue with any one. Just discuss with you boss and HR when both are in good mood.
God Will Give you what you expect, but not on your time. (Refer Book Dr.I k Vijdivala)
So, Work hard, sincerely in current organisation, mean while lookout other option if you not satisfied with current organisation.

Dear madam,
If everyone else got raise for 18-19 , then it is unfair on their part to deny you. Denial for everyone in Pandemic is understood.
I think you should escalate by writing in suitably persuasive language appealing to their good sense to revisit their decision. That is the best you can do before looking for green pastures.

Friend,

Prima facie, It is not a matter of biasness. Employer procrastinate your appraisal because of insecurity that whether you rejoin or not when your maternity leave ends. Now, It is a matter of challenging economic/ situation of the company due to Covid19 pandemic. Escalating the issue will do nothing in your problem. You have to understand the situation. If you are not happy with current organization try other organizations. Analyse job market/economic situations and take wise decision. Money is a motivational tool, but money is not everything. Motivation comes from within us and not from anyone else. Inspire yourself; be your own motivation. The juxtaposition of the sexes is unnecessary to your problem. Men and women have power and potential. The real problem is within minds and mindset.

Hi Harpreet,
Can understand your situation when all employees had been given rise for the year 2018-19 but not you, as you were on ML. With the outbreak of COVID-19 and global pandemic, all companies are having tough time. Have patience and raise your grievance once the situation and business are back to normalcy. When an employee is on ML, any rise in salary is given only after her joining back to work.
So be patient and talk to HR department through your HOD, for your justified hike for the period 2018-19, only when everything gets back to normal.

You can wait until COVID-19 is over before reacting to the superior. After all, this is a special period.

Dear Madam

We all are aware about the present situation is epidemic due to the covid 19. which is out of control from our hand. Now, coming on your point last three year only one increment entitled and last year due to ML. your increment hold . After joining office March -20 all companies affect the Covid -19 and Lock down started.

It is matter of fact most companies doing the appraisal without bias and tend. Few companies have same approach . But as per consider the current situation, It is not advisable to labeling as gender bias company and not done appraisal due to female employee. May company have some financial problem which is cause affected your appraisal.

So, please analyze your self and good time for put up your grievance with management . As senior advise about present time is not right time to resign and find the new job , please be wait and keep patient.

Dear madam,
I beg to differ with with some of the views advising to wait till pandemic situation turns normal or to toe soft line. If everyone else got raise for 18-19 why you should be left out because of your being on ML?. Or under the false pretext of pandemic situation?
As suggested in my earlier post, approach the top decision maker with your appropriately worded and persuasive representation and compel them to rethink.

Hi Harpreet,
By with holding your alone payment management is not going to come out from any financial crisis as suggested. It is unfair to deny your increment when everyone got their part.Management is taking excuse of pandemic to deny your fair increment.
Do not panic and this is not a time for leaving the organisation. But you must talk to your HOD and HR and keep pressurising them with your demand.Keep your patience and do your best. There should not be any let down in your performance.I pray and hope that your effort will turn fruitful.
