Hi, I am working as HR in an IT MNC company. I have a question that can we consider the employee who has taken 6 months maternity leave in appraisal process 2018-2019.

An Employee who availed Maternity Leave after the same was Sanctioned by the Employer upon her Fulfilling the Eligibility, must have put in Satisfactory Work Performance during the entire period of Her Continuous Employment and there is No Rational Why Her Performance for the Time Period she was on Duty present and perfoming her Tasks Ought Not Be Appraised for the Objective of P A is twofold i) Evaluating her Contributions and ii) Knowing Possible Betterment/Improvement.
Admissibility of or Availing Maternity Leave is No Potent Reason For No Apprisal

The period of maternity leave is to be treated as duty period for all service benefits and purposes. However, if the performance appraisal period is one year and the period of maternity leave granted to the employee falls in between, it has to be excluded and the appraisal has to be done proportionately only.

You have to consider for appraisal since she was on sanctioned maternity leave
